I. LIFE ON L'ILE SAINT-LOUIS Entering the street from the island side brings us to buildings whose facades have changed little since the 17th century, when they were built.  Our door brings us near the other end of the little street, at its intersection with Rue de L'Ile Saint-Louis, the main thoroughfare. Our little street, with gallery on left and Judy poised to open our door.  Just inside the door, 63 steps on the original 17th century narrow circular staircase end at the apartment door. Six more steps take us to the bedroom. Twenty more steps--same staircase-- end at the living-dining-cooking area. The final twenty steps--new stairway--end at the loft office, which served us as bedding storage and laundry drying facility.
